Claravis is the medicine, which is used to treat severe cystic acne. Sometimes health providers prescribe Claravis their patients for other reasons and to treat other diseases. But if they prescribe it to cure acne, this means that the form of acne is rather severe and it couldn’t have been cured by antibiotics.
This medicine is a special form of vitamin A. It influences your skin and decreases the level of oil, which is released by oil glands. This stimulates quicker renovation of your skin.
The most important warning is that pregnant women can’t use Claravis. Claravis can cause very serious birth defects. Such defects include damage of baby’s eyes, ears face, skull, heart, and brain. So take care of your unborn baby and do not take Claravis while pregnancy.
Also if you are planning of becoming pregnant, you mustn’t use Claravis too. You have to visit your doctor and get two strong birth control methods prescribed by him. If you get pregnant while using Claravis, this may cause serious birth defects too. So you have to be very careful and cautious. It’s better to pass a pregnancy test after each time your prescription is refilled.
It’s better to start using strong birth control methods a month before you start using Claravis. During the treatment you have to be careful too. And after the finish of the treatment, you have to use birth control for a month also. Remember that Claravis can influence an unborn baby even if it is used for a rather short period of time.
Primary forms of birth control include tubal ligation (tubes tied); vasectomy of the male sexual partner; an IUD (intrauterine device); estrogen-containing birth control pills (not mini-pills); and hormonal birth control patches, implants, injections, or vaginal ring. Those are birth control methods must be used together with other birth control methods, such as a male latex condom plus spermicidal foam or gel; a diaphragm plus spermicidal foam or gel; a cervical cap plus spermicidal foam or gel; and a vaginal sponge containing spermicide. Remember that it’s important to combine those methods. Only in that case you’ll get the satisfactory result.
And if you breast feed your child, you can’t be treated with Claravis too, as this drug can pass into milk and cause serious danger for your baby’s health.
If you treat your severe acne with the help of Claravis, you have to avoid taking other vitamin A containing medicines during the period of treatment. You also shouldn’t donate blood while you treat acne with this strong anti-acne drug.
Only a doctor can prescribe you treatment with this medicine as it’s rather serious medicine. That’s why consult a doctor before the treatment. He’ll tell you, what might be the consequences, in which cases you shouldn’t take Claravis at all (for example you are allergic to some of its elements).
If you have ever had one of the following: a personal or family history of depression or mental illness; heart disease, high cholesterol or triglycerides; osteoporosis or other bone disorders; diabetes; asthma; an eating disorder (anorexia nervosa) or liver disease, your doctor has to prescribe you a special dose or give you special tests to know whether it’s safe for you to use Claravis.
The usual dose for average patients is 0.5 to 1.0 mg/kg/day given in two divided doses. Claravis should be taken with food. If you take the drug without food, the absorption will be much worse. The average term of treatment is from 15 to 20 weeks.
